Rewarding Work with an Interdisciplinary Team
The THANC Foundation’s Research Associates interact with an interdisciplinary team of doctors and scientists to write and publish scientific papers and posters. They have presented their work to a variety of head & neck and thyroid-related conferences and have published manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals including Laryngoscope, Thyroid, Head & Neck, and JAMA Otolaryngology. Research Associates follow patients throughout their entire clinical course. Under direct supervision, they assist with collecting data for clinical studies.
Working Together to Push the Needle Forward
Collaboration
Research Associates collaborate with an interdisciplinary group of physicians and researchers affiliated with Mount Sinai Medical Center to conduct and publish clinical research. In addition, Research Associates play key roles in the development of an educational website for patients and their families, and share the experiences of cancer patients through the 30 Stories in 30 Days awareness campaign.
Immersion
Research Associates also help coordinate and oversee a weekly virtual journal club (TIROxMDS), which features international leaders in thyroid cancer research, and will aid in the development of a comprehensive thyroid cancer care resource for physicians and trainees worldwide. Finally, Research Associates have the opportunity to spend time observing thyroid and head and neck surgery in the operating room as well as shadowing in the clinic.
Qualifications
This is a full-time position with a required two-year commitment. Research Associates must hold a bachelor’s degree and have a strong interest in pursuing a career in medicine. Applicants should have a robust scientific background and excellent writing skills. Previous experience in a clinical environment is desired, as well. Applicants who have completed their MCAT are preferred.
