Cátia Gonçalves

It’s normal to feel scared when you get a cancer diagnosis. The best advice I can give you is find refuge in prayer, family & friends. Trust your medical team.

My name is Cátia. I’m 28 years old and I’m a Portuguese dentist. When I was 25 years old, I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma. I have gone through a left hemithyroidectomy. Back then at the time of my diagnosis I didn’t know how good the chances of recovery were for this type of cancer. I recovered very well with the help of my doctors, my family and my friends.

I take medication everyday, which I will take for the rest of my life, but I don’t feel like thyroid cancer took something from me. I feel like it made me develop into a more mature and stronger person.

Trust your medical team. The chances really are in your favor and tomorrow awaits you.
