Four-time cancer survivor Keith Bellizzi draws from his lived experience to explore how people adapt, find meaning and move forward through adversity. He considers what resilience can look like during and after cancer, including the emotional complexity that may continue long after treatment ends.
Host Genevieve Lowry joins Keith for a thoughtful conversation about resilience, the charged language often used to describe the cancer experience and the pressure that certain words can place on patients and survivors. Together, they examine the difficult and sometimes conflicting emotions that can shape life during treatment and survivorship.

Keith Bellizzi, PhD, MPH
Guest Speaker
Keith M. Bellizzi, PhD, MPH, is a Professor of Human Development and Family Sciences at the University of Connecticut, where his research focuses on cancer survivorship, resilience, and healthy aging. He previously served as a scientist in the National Cancer Institute’s Office of Cancer Survivorship. A four-time cancer survivor himself, Dr. Bellizzi brings both scientific expertise and lived experience to understanding the emotional challenges of life during and after cancer. He is the author of Falling Forward: The New Science of Resilience and Personal Transformation, which explores how people adapt, find meaning, and move forward through adversity.
Genevieve Lowry MS.Ed, CEIM, CCTSF, CCLS
Host/Moderator
Genevieve Lowry received her BS from Wheelock College (1990) in early childhood education and child life and her M.Ed from Fordham University (1998). From 1990-2007 she worked as a certified child life specialist in a major New York City hospital and later as a private practitioner. Currently she is faculty at Bank Street Graduate School of Education in the fully online Child Life Program. Genevieve is also the founder of the The Convenient Classroom, an online learning platform for Child Life Specialists offering opportunities for professional development. She writes and presents on topics related to children and families as well as online education. She is interested in strategies for supporting adjuncts teaching online and providing advisement to students online.
