The treatment for upper aerodigestive tract malignancies with external beam radiation therapy and chemotherapy can serve as a “cure,” yet often give rise to pharyngoesophageal (PE) stenosis, an unwanted side effect of radiation and chemotherapy. To improve communication, compare therapeutic results, and assist in treatment planning, THANC developed a new classification system to describe PE stenoses.
