Defects of the hard palate and jaw (palatomaxillary defects) were historically restored with a prosthetic obturator, but surgical advances have led to palatomaxillary reconstruction as a viable alternative. This study found a 96.7% success rate in patients treated with surgical reconstruction and an 86% success rate in patients who underwent prosthodontic rehabilitation.
