Alex Chill

Learn how Alex Chill’s work in speech, voice & swallowing care led her to join THANC’s Junior Board.

Alex Chill worked in the Mount Sinai Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery beginning in August 2019, following her graduation from Adelphi University with a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. Her role began as a one-year clinical fellowship in speech-language pathology sponsored by the THANC Foundation, which subsequently transitioned into a full-time position within the department.

As a speech-language pathologist specializing in head and neck cancer, Alex worked with patients undergoing surgical and/or radiation treatment (with or without chemotherapy) to evaluate and rehabilitate speech, voice, and swallowing function. She was deeply committed to forming strong personal connections with her patients and ensuring they felt informed and empowered throughout their treatment journey. Through her work at Mount Sinai, Alex developed a profound appreciation for the physical and emotional toll that head and neck cancer treatment can take on quality of life. She strived to lessen this burden through clinical intervention, patient education and support for ongoing research in the field.

Before joining Mount Sinai, Alex worked at The Windward School as both an assistant teacher and lead teacher in 5th grade Language Arts and Math. She is grateful for the communication and educational skills she gained during her time at Windward, which continue to strengthen her work as a clinician and patient advocate.
