Technology in Medicine: Informed Consent via an Interactive Multimedia Format

In stride with the evolution of technology, utilization of multimedia formats for delivering patient education has steadily increased. For example, we are interested in developing pre-recorded videos that are comprehendible, portable, interactive and provide the patient with knowledge of informed consent.  The key concern remains, however, the ability for the patient to retain such information regardless of the vehicle.  This proof of concept study reports on the effectiveness of inserting knowledge tests and providing feedback about the responses at timed intervals on patient recall and retention of information during informed consent videos.
