Intraoperative Nerve Monitoring for Dissection of Vagal Nerve Schwannoma

Vagal nerve schwannomas are rare benign neural sheath tumors.  Multiple treatment options exist including observation, complete tumor excision with nerve transection, and excision with nerve preservation. However, despite the use of microsurgical techniques, there are still several cases in the literature that detail failure to preserve nerve viability. In this article, THANC introduces the use of electromyographic endotracheal intraoperative monitoring for dissection of vagal nerve schwannomas.
