THANC Welcomes Cindy Ganz to the Institute for Head and Neck and Thyroid Cancer
We are very pleased to announce the addition of Cindy Ganz, MS, speech-language pathologist to the Institute for Head and Neck and Thyroid Cancer, Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, Mount Sinai Beth Israel. Ms. Ganz worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Speech and Hearing Department, Department of Surgery, for the past 13 years. She brings extensive expertise working with patients treated for head and neck cancer, including those who have undergone partial and total laryngectomy, oral cancer surgery or chemoradiotherapy as primary treatment.
Ms. Ganz is particularly skilled in the management of voice prostheses and humidification for patients with total laryngectomy and tracheo-esophageal puncture (TEP) voice restoration. She has managed hundreds of laryngectomy patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering and developed the TEP program previously at St Vincent’s Medical Center. Cindy also conducts clinical and instrumental assessment of swallowing, including both the Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) procedure and Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES). She set up the FEES program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center which is currently utilized throughout the hospital to assess dysphagic patients. In addition, Ms. Ganz has extensive experience in assessing speech, voice, and communication and has provided rehabilitation for patients with these impairments for many years.
Ms. Ganz received her Master’s Degree from Hunter College. She is a licensed and certified clinician with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and a member of the International Dysphagia Research Society. She is also a Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImP) registered clinician. She has been involved in research and has collaborated on an NIH clinical trial on treatment for head and neck cancer patients. She has also co-authored several publications.
We are very pleased to expand our program with the addition of Ms. Ganz, who will be seeing patients for assessment and treatment in the Mount Sinai Beth Israel Union Square and White Plains offices. We look forward to continuing to provide evidence-based, superior care to our patients. She will also help to broaden our functional outcomes program.
